Picasa web albums archive4/10/2024 ![]() Users were able to purchase more storage space with these plans: Users with accounts at Google could store and share 1 GB of photos for free. On March 7, 2007, it was upgraded to 1GB. When introduced, it came with 250 MB free space. Picasa Web Albums was first announced on June 6, 2006. Picasa Web Albums (PWA) was a photo-sharing web application created by Google and was similar to websites such as Flickr and Zooomr. Other Picasa applications Picasa Web Albums Google stated that the primary reason for retiring Picasa was that it wanted to focus its efforts "entirely on a single photos service" the cross-platform, web-based Google Photos. On February 12, 2016, Google announced it was " Moving on from Picasa" and the Picasa desktop application would be discontinued on March 15, 2016. There was also an iPhoto plugin or program for uploading photos available for Mac OS X 10.4 and later. ![]() For Windows 98 and Windows Me, only an older version was available. There was a version for Windows XP and Windows Vista, as well as a version for Linux. In July 2004, Google purchased Picasa and began offering it as a free download. The name "Picasa" is a blend of the last name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for "my house" and "pic" for pictures. Photos from Drive (Photos from Google Drive can also be seen in the Google Photos (GP) library if that option was activated in the GP settings, but will not appear in GP as an album.Picasa is a software application for organizing and editing photos. Photos from Hangouts / two-user Hangout albums Photos from Blogger (Deleting images from the "Photos from Blogger" album will remove the images from your blog) (This Auto Backup album doesn't appear as an "album" at Google Photos however, the Auto Backup photos do appear in your photos stream and possibly in albums in Google Photos.) When you create your own albums there may be duplicates between your albums and "Auto Backup". These automatically generated albums cannot be deleted in Album Archive, and at Google Photos only if empty. (Example name: 5 #3) Separate sub-albums are generated with #X suffixes as required by Google Photos.
